Q & A's for technical and operational issues

Uploading video clips / watching video clips

1.      What kind of files (in what format) can I upload on the site?

You can upload video clips on the site in the following formats: .wmv/ .mpg/ .avi/ .wav/ .wma/ .au/ .snd/ .aif/ .aifc/ .aiff/ .cda/ .vob/.

2.      I have an MP4 video clip (or a clip in some other format that doesn't appear on the list of acceptable formats above). Is it still possible to upload it on the site and how?

In order to upload a video clip in a format other than those listed above, you first have to reformat the file into one of the acceptable formats. There are freeware & shareware user-friendly reformatting programs available which can help you do this such as: http://www.avs4you.com.

3.       Are there any limitations with regard to size or length of the video file?

You can upload files of up to 60MB, 10 minutes in length. We recommend that the length of your video clip not exceed more than 2-3 minutes.

4.      My video clip is of a low resolution. Is it possible to upload it on the site so it can be viewed at a higher quality?

You can upload a low quality video clip but the viewing quality will be the same.

5.      The video clip I've uploaded is at a very high quality but the viewing quality is lower. Why is that?

The reason might have to do with the data rate flow which currently stands at 350kbps. The data rate flow may be upgraded in the future which will allow higher quality viewing. Likewise, it's possible that a very large number of visitors to the site are watching the clips at the same time, which will slow down the rate of date flow of the video and will interfere with the viewing quality. We're doing everything we can to make sure that large numbers of visitors to the site can enjoy smooth, uninterrupted and quality viewing of clips simultaneously.

6.      I am unable to upload a video link from the Internet.

It is not possible to upload a link to the site. You must directly upload the original video clip from the user's computer in one of the following formats: .wmv/ .mpg/ .avi/ .wav/ .wma/ .au/ .snd/ .aif/ .aifc/ .aiff/ .cda/ .vob/.

7.      I couldn't update the video clip in my personal profile. The old video still appears on the site.

The new video clip will appear within 24 hours of being uploaded. In the event that the new video does not appear after 24 hours, please report this to us at: support@sportalentsvc.com.

8.      Is it possible to post tags to a video clip which I am uploading on the site? How will potentially interested viewers find my clip from among so many others on the site?

It is not now possible to add tags to a video clip. Finding a particular clip on the site can be done through a sophisticated search engine which allows for various search possibilities such as: keywords, type of sport, position, age, continent, country and time the video was uploaded. The search engine can be found at the top of the site’s home page.

9.      I registered and uploaded a video clip to the site but my clip doesn't appear anywhere on the site. Why?

The clip will appear on the site within 24 hours after being uploaded and after it is reviewed and deemed suitable for the site and its content.

10.  The time required to upload a video clip is very long. Is this acceptable and why?

It could be that the size of the clip is large and requires a lot of time to upload on the site. This doesn't indicate any sort of problem. Please be patient until the video file finishes uploading. Another tip: try to edit the clip so that its length doesn't exceed 2-3 minutes. It will be easier to watch and will be more successful.

11.  The period of time from when I press on play until I can begin watching the video clip is pretty long. Is this reasonable? Does it indicate some sort of problem? Why is this?

The reason seems to be the distance between your computer to the servers on which the video clips are stored. In any case, the waiting time usually isn't any longer than a few seconds.

12.  Why does the video break up quite often during viewing?

Occasionally a video clip breaks up when we watch one that was delivered to us through the video streaming method which is a popular way to watch video clips on the Internet. In this way, the clip is received and presented without breaking up (under optimal conditions) on the surfer's player while it's being transferred to a player by the streaming provider. In other words, the clip begins to play on our computer even though the entire file has not yet downloaded. While we're watching the clip, the file continues to download and it sometimes happens that the clip finishes playing one portion while the rest of the file hasn't yet finished downloading in most cases because of narrow bandwidth or because the server is busy. So there are breaks and pauses in the video which are a result of waiting for our server to download more of the video clip so we can watch it.

13.  Is there any need for special software/add-ons in order to watch the video clips on the site?

You need Media Player which is an integral part of the Windows operating system.

14.  I use the Mac operating system and/or a different browser than Internet Explorer (like Firefox or Safari) and I have difficulty watching the video clips. What can I do?

The site is optimized for viewing in the Explorer and Firefox Internet browsers. In order to watch clips in Firefox, you have to download a special add-on. You can download it at http://port25.technet.com/pages/windows-media-player-firefox-plugin-download.aspx

15.  Is it possible and also legal to download a video clip from the site onto my hard disc?

No, but after you register for the site, you can create a list of your favorite video clips by clicking on Add to my videos which can be found on the talent page where you watched the clip. It will then be added to your list of My videos so you can watch anytime you login to the site.

16.   Can I share video clips that I like from the site with friends and other users and send them the clips?

At the moment you can't, but it's a distinct possibility that you will in the future. In any case, you can send a link to the page with the video clip that you liked.

17.  Lots of the video clips I watch are of pretty poor quality. Why?

The clips are videoed and edited by private people all over the world. They don't always have the option of editing the video clips professionally.

18.  Am I allowed to upload a video clip of another talent?

No. You are allowed to upload video clips only of yourself, after you open an account (My account). When you open an account, you will be asked to fill in your personal details.

19.  Can I upload more than one video clip? How do I do that?

You can't upload more than one video clip, but you can switch/update the clip as necessary over time.

20.  I can't watch a video clip / clips (no picture).

The site is optimized for viewing in Internet Explorer 7 and above and in Firefox. In the event that you are using one of these browsers and still can't watch any video clips on the site, check if Media Player is installed on your operating system (or the add-on required to work with Firefox) and whether it is functioning properly. In the event that you are unable to view a specific video clip, the problem is most likely in the clip itself, which may be too heavy or as a result of some other problem having to do with the clip or the data flow through the server.

21.  The video clip doesn't have any sound.

Check if your speakers are working. If they are, it's possible that the video clip was uploaded without any sound.

22.  Can I upload a video clip with sound effects / background music?

 Absolutely.

23.  My video was taped on a home camcorder and isn't very good quality. Can I upload it on the site?

You can upload a low quality video clip on the site but the viewing quality will match. You can upload clips in the following formats:  .wmv/ .mpg/ .avi/ .wav/ .wma/ .au/ .snd/ .aif/ .aifc/ .aiff/ .cda/ .vob/.

24.  Are there any minimal technical requirements regarding the quality of the video uploaded on the site?

No, but the viewing quality of the video clip will match the quality of the video.

25.  Will the video clip I upload on the site remain there indefinitely?

 Yes.

26.  Why doesn't the video clip I uploaded appear on the site's home page? Is there any possibility that it will appear there?

Your video clip can appear on the home page under the following categories:

A.     Talent of the week – if the site manager chooses your clip

B.      Highest rated videos – if users rate your clip among the six best clips

C.    Most viewed videos – if your clip is among the six most watched

D.     Most recent videos – if your clip is among the last six uploaded onto the site

27.  My video clip was deleted from the site. Why?

It apparently included unsuitable content and there were complaints from users.
